Botulax 100U by Hugel Pharma is a Korean botulinum toxin type A supplied as a lyophilized white powder for reconstitution. Each single-vial pack contains 100 units of Hugel’s proprietary CBFC26 working strain. The 100-unit format is the most common pack size for single-patient aesthetic sessions across glabellar lines, crow’s feet, forehead, masseter, and other common application zones.

Why this product is different

Botulax is Hugel Pharma’s flagship botulinum toxin type A and one of the most established Korean neuromodulators by clinical volume. The CBFC26 working strain is Hugel’s proprietary lineage. Production uses freeze-drying, producing a visible white lyophilizate in the vial — distinct from vacuum-dried products that can appear empty. Hugel has built one of the largest production capacities for botulinum toxin in Korea.

Mechanism of action

Botulinum toxin type A is a presynaptic neuromuscular blocker. Following injection into target muscle, the toxin’s heavy chain binds to specific receptors on motor nerve terminals; the light chain is internalised into the nerve cytoplasm, where it enzymatically cleaves SNAP-25 — a SNARE complex protein required for acetylcholine vesicle fusion at the neuromuscular junction. Without SNAP-25, acetylcholine release into the synaptic cleft is blocked, the motor nerve cannot signal the muscle fibre to contract, and the targeted muscle relaxes. New axon terminals eventually sprout and restore neuromuscular signalling, at which point clinical effect wanes.

Frequently asked questions

What is Botulax 100U?

Botulax 100U is a Korean botulinum toxin type A manufactured by Hugel Pharma. Each single-use vial contains 100 units of lyophilized white powder, reconstituted with 0.9% sterile saline before injection. Botulax is one of the most widely used Korean neuromodulators by clinical volume.

Who manufactures Botulax?

Botulax is manufactured by Hugel Pharma in the Republic of Korea. Hugel is one of the three largest botulinum toxin manufacturers in Korea (alongside Medytox and Daewoong) and operates large-scale toxin production capacity domestically.

What is the CBFC26 strain?

CBFC26 is Hugel’s proprietary Clostridium botulinum working strain used to produce Botulax. It is the genetic lineage Hugel maintains in its production seed bank. Genomic analysis published alongside Hugel’s regulatory filings has shown CBFC26 to be the same DNA sequence as the Hall ATCC 3502 reference strain widely used in botulinum toxin production globally.

Is Botulax freeze-dried or vacuum-dried?

Botulax is freeze-dried (lyophilized). After freeze-drying, a visible white powder cake or thin layer remains in the vial. This is distinct from vacuum-dried botulinum toxins which can sometimes appear empty in the vial — both are normal manufacturing processes for botulinum toxin type A products.

What is Botulax 100U commonly used for?

Common aesthetic application zones include glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), forehead lines, lateral canthal lines (crow’s feet), masseter contouring, brow lift refinement, mentalis muscle, and platysma bands. Therapeutic uses include hyperhidrosis. Specific dosing per zone is determined by the treating practitioner based on individual anatomy and clinical judgment.

How is Botulax different from Botulax 200U and 300U?

Botulax 100U is the single-vial single-patient pack — the most common format for individual aesthetic sessions. Botulax 200U is a higher-unit-count vial suited for multi-patient sessions or larger treatment areas in a single patient. Botulax 300U is the high-unit-count format for high-volume clinics and multi-zone procedures. All three share the same active ingredient and CBFC26 strain — the difference is pack size.

How is Botulax different from Nabota?

Both are Korean botulinum toxin type A products but from different manufacturers and using different production processes. Botulax is manufactured by Hugel Pharma using freeze-drying with the CBFC26 strain. Nabota is manufactured by Daewoong Pharmaceutical using vacuum-drying with a wild-type strain. Choice between them is typically based on practitioner preference and clinical experience.

How long does Botulax last?

Onset and duration vary with individual anatomy, muscle mass, metabolism, treatment zone, and dosing strategy. Practitioners can refer to published clinical literature for general expectations specific to their indication.

What are the storage requirements?

Store unopened vials at 2–8 °C, protected from light. Do not freeze. After reconstitution with 0.9% sterile saline, the solution is typically used within 24 hours when stored refrigerated. Discard any unused reconstituted product per institutional protocol.

Is Botulax 100U the same as the US Letybo product?

Letybo is the US-marketed brand name for Hugel’s botulinum toxin type A, with US distribution managed through Hugel’s US subsidiary. Both products derive from Hugel’s manufacturing platform. However, packaging, labelling, and regulatory status differ by jurisdiction. The product on Fillersfairy is the Korean-market Botulax, not the US-labelled Letybo.

Running a medspa means bulk orders are routine. Fillersfairy’s tiered discounts saved me $150 on 30 vials of Botulax. Their dashboard showed shipping progress without me chasing updates. Product-wise, consistent potency same efficacy as what I’d get from my Korean supplier but with better logistics.
